Dr. Jeralee Anderson is a talented, driven, and experienced nonprofit executive and small business leader serving her second term as Councilmember in the City of Redmond, Washington. She is currently the Presiding Officer for the Public Safety & Human Services Committee. In her first term, she served as Vice President of the Council during the pandemic.

Personal

Recently married to her long time partner Ilya, Jeralee and her small family have lived in Redmond for 13 years. She is a step mom and a dog mom, and proud to be part of a Boeing union family. She is daughter of a nurse and a rocket scientist, granddaughter of two WWII veterans (Navy and Army), and descendant of both a Ukrainian firefighter and Civil War veteran (North).

 

Jeralee was inspired to run for office in 2017 because she wanted to serve the community, help protect democratic institutions, and to help shape the future of this rapidly growing city. When she found the opportunities closed to her for serving as a volunteer on local commissions, she put her governance skills to work and ran for office instead after attending an Emily's List training.

Now, Jeralee is running for Mayor because she believes Redmond needs a bold, transformational leader prepare the city for the future.

Volunteering & Community Service

Jeralee is a dedicated public servant at the local, regional, and state levels. She is committed to ethical leadership, financial stewardship, and good governance in all of her roles.

In 2019, Governor Jay Inslee appointed Dr. Anderson to serve on the Washington State Public Works Board, representing all cities in the state of Washington through the Association of Washington Cities (AWC). The PWB provides infrastructure funding to distressed and severely distressed communities in Washington. She was appointed to serve on the Executive Committee in 2020, and currently serves on the Broadband Committee and as the representative of PWB for the Community Airport Revitalization Board.

In her tenure on the Council, Jeralee has served in a variety of Mayoral and Council appointments including:

  • 2020-Present Cascade Water Alliance Board of Directors (2022-23 Chair, Finance & Management Committee)

  • 2020-2021 King County Regional Transit Committee

  • 2020-2021 Law Enforcement Officers and Firefighters (LEOFF I) Disability Board

  • 2022-Present State Enhanced 911 Advisory Committee

  • 2023-Present King County Board of Health

  • 2023-Present HealthierHere Board of Directors

Outside of Council, Jeralee was recently invited to serve on the Board of Directors for the League of Minority Voters and the Elected Leaders Council for the Center on Policing Equity. She is an acting precinct committee officer for the 45th Legislative District Democrats.

One of Jeralee's most marketable skills is being able to walk three beagles at the same time. She is an active volunteer and foster dog mom for the Seattle Beagle Rescue.

Professional

In her day job, Jeralee Anderson is the President/CEO and co-founder of Sustainable Transport Council. STC is a globally-recognized nonprofit organization based in Redmond, leading the green and equitable transformation of the transportation industry through education and the independent third-party sustainability certification of transportation projects. Currently, she manages an infrastructure project portfolio of over $36 billion dollars in more than 11 states and 8 countries. She collaborates with public works professionals, departments of transportation, ecologists, planners and designers, general contractors, and multiple non-profit partners daily.

She earned her undergraduate degree in civil engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and her doctorate from the University of Washington in construction engineering and sustainability, including a certificate in business administration from the University of Washington Foster School of Business.

 

Dr. Anderson is a licensed civil engineer in Washington State and California and legacy LEED Accredited Professional. As the top executive leader at STC, she manages day to day operations and is responsible for governance, board development, program management, human resources, budget, strategic planning, and more. 

 

In 2013, President Obama recognized her and her team for her work developing the Greenroads Rating System as White House Transportation Champions of Change for the 21st Century.

 

In 2021, Dr. Anderson was named as one of the nation's 2021 Top 20 Under 40 Young Professionals in the construction industry by Engineering News Record. This same year, Acting Director Henry Jardine appointed her to serve on the Industry Advisory Group of the U.S. State Department, Bureau of Overseas Building Operations. She was reappointed to a second term in 2023 by Ambassador William Moser.

She serves in her professional capacity as a technical volunteer for the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine - Transportation Research Board (TRB), Environmental Analysis and Ecology Committee and Rail Transit Infrastructure Design and Maintenance, and previously served on the now-retired Sustainability in Transportation Committee and the General Structures Committee.
